Who Was Jon Burnett?
Jon Burnett spent 36 years at KDKA-TV, where he held many roles, including forecasting the weather and hosting programs like “Evening Magazine” and “Pittsburgh Today Live.”
Jon had a bright personality and an adventurous love for life. He liked to go on new adventures, like climbing down tall buildings and driving over big rocks. His exuberance brought joy to viewers and made them want to tune in to his programs.
Jon’s Health Challenges
Jon retired in 2019 and had health issues. He had suspected chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE. CTE is a degenerative brain disease that can develop in individuals who have received repeated head trauma, as seen in sports.
Jon thought the condition stemmed partly from his time playing college football. Jon and his family wanted to pay it forward despite these struggles by telling his story. They wanted to educate the public about CTE and to make sports safer for all athletes.
The Community’s Love for Jon
Jon’s death was deeply mourned in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area. His co-workers at KDKA-TV mourned him as a talented and gentle man who brightened their days.
